We enjoyed a very practical and interactive presentation from Mandi Moore at the West Lothian Women in Business Networking and Collaboration workshop this week.
I’d go as far as to say the session was almost like attending a magic show in parts. Mandi asked an attendee to name a specific person in a specific company that she would like to be introduced to….and within minutes finds someone in the room who has a close connection who can make the introduction. This was between two women who had met several times at events and thought they knew each other, but there was a potentially very valuable network link that they had not uncovered.
This “trick” of uncovering network links was repeated in different ways a couple more times during the workshop.
The difference between this and a magic show though was that Mandi was there to tell us how to do it! Making connections is about knowing what questions to ask to draw out the answers you need. As Mandi says, “The answer is always in the room.” So if you are at an event with a room full of people, being prepared with the right questions will help you find the answers and the connections you need.
Suffice to say that we all came away with some very definite steps to make our networking (both face to face events and follow up) much more effective.
Many thanks to the Hilcroft Hotel in Whitburn for hosting us again with excellent catering and facilities.
Our next event will be in the new year, and will be a joint lunch and speaker event with the West Lothian Chamber of Commerce. Date and speaker details to be confirmed – please follow our Facebook or Linkedin pages, and sign up to our newsletters to receive notifications of upcoming events.
Our next Coffee and Conversation is on Thursday 29th November, 9.30am at Dobbies Livingston. Coffee and Conversation takes place at Dobbies in Livingston at 9.30am on the last Thursday of most months, except when we have an event or workshop instead. We hope to see you there!
